The Capcom Pro Tour is a series of Capcom sponsored tournaments for Ultra Street Fighter IV that runs throughout the year and culminates into a final tournament of the world’s best Street Fighter’s. When Sony secured exclusive rights to USF4 on PS4 and paid for development of it’s sequel Street Fighter V, they also sweetened the Capcom Pro Tour pot by $500,000. The plan was to integrate the new PS4 version of the game into the Pro Tour, but upon release of the game numerous bugs and glitches were discovered. The community vigorously voiced their disappointment with this new version of the game and Capcom has now officially made a statement regarding the state of the game and the integrity of the Capcom Pro Tour. Capcom Community Manager and pro gamer Peter, Combofiend, Rosa had this to say on the Capcom Unity blog.

For those experiencing issues and wondering about a patch, we are aware that you are experiencing problems with the PS4 version of USFIV, which was published and developed by SCEA’s Third Party Production group. SCEA and Capcom are currently looking into the issues that some users may be experiencing and are working to resolve them as quickly as possible. We will continue to provide updates on our progress.

A lot of our more competitive players have wondered how the USFIV version of PS4 will affect them and the tour. To that we’d like to advise that the integrity of the Capcom Pro Tour is a top priority for us and we will continue to work with tournament organizers worldwide to ensure that the highest quality event will be run. Each region will maintain its current hardware standard for the remainder of the 2015 Capcom Pro Tour until otherwise announced. We will keep you updated as to when the PS4 version of USFIV will be integrated into the Pro Tour.

For the time being, the tournament standard for Ultra Street Fighter IV will remain the same and not change to the PS4 version. All Capcom Pro Tour affiliates must follow a special set of rules to be a part of the tour and that brings into question whether tournaments that have previously committed to the PS4 standard are going to keep that commitment or switch back. This is crucial information for tournament participants as the world’s largest fighting game tournament, Evolution 2015, had previously stated that USF4 would run on PS4.

We will be sure to update you when more information is available.
