Dropping in this February, season two of Rocket League’s ranked play will begin with changes to the ranking system taking effect as well.
Starting off in just a few weeks, Rocket League’s existing ranking system of Bronze, Silver, Gold and Challenger will change out for a twelve-tier system titled completely differently. As with any other “professional” level game, Rocket League will consequentially remove your rank with the season 2 update. Below are a list of the new rank elements – let’s overview how they compare with the existing system.
In the existing Rocket League tier system, we’re working with Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum. Platinum is currently a single tier, unlike the “Rising Star” through Challenger tiers in the new system, allowing for high end prospects to feel more recognized in the system. With existing ranked points changing out in the new season, the method for ranking up changes as well.
Similar to other popular professional games, you won’t be ranking up or down on random luck in the new system. You’ll have to prove you are better than the average player in each tier to move up or down with a series of wins or losses, rather than floating between ranks based on a few points. In fact, ranked points will be eliminated in the new system entirely. For those already ranked fairly in Rocket League, don’t worry. Your new ranking will be based off of your existing rank, plus how well you “seed” in season two after 10 games played.
The top 100 players leaderboard won’t leave despite a lack of points, as the system still rates your skills on the back end, and all skill ranks will be displayed prominently in your game, shown below. It is worth while noting that there is no “hard cap” on the number of players who can be in the highest tier of players. If you meet the skill requirement, you’ll be set in that “Challenger” tier.
