Steam has updated their Steam refund policy and with this new update, they’ve made it a lot easier to get your refund to you. “You can request a refund for nearly any purchase on Steam, for any reason. Maybe your PC doesn’t meet the hardware requirements, maybe you bought a game by mistake, maybe you played the title for an hour and just didn’t like it, It doesn’t matter.” The policy now states.

The new policy doesn’t just apply to games, but also DLC, in-game items/content, pre-release, bundles, and even Steam funds added to your wallet. The only standing conditions are that if a refund request is made, it must be made within two weeks of the original purchase, and the content in question, whatever it may be, must have less than two hours of gameplay playtime. If you happen to fall outside of these conditions, it’s not a definite no: “You can ask for a refund anyway and we’ll take a look,”

The new policy is far superior to the one imposed in March that granted you a 14-day window for refund requests, but then effectively closed it with some fine print stating that refunds would not be granted once Valve’s “performance of its obligations has begun.” what this meant was, when your download was completed, so was your right to a refund.

With the new policy in place “Valve will, upon request via help.steampowered.com, issue a refund for any reason, if the request is made within fourteen days of purchase, and the title has been played for less than two hours, You will be issued a full refund of your purchase within a week of approval. You will receive the refund in Steam Wallet funds or through the same payment method you used to make the purchase.”

All this being said, this new policy is a nice change from the old one, and will help quell some of the ongoing complaints about Steams old refund policy which basically meant that if you download it, there was nothing Steam was going to do about it.
