EA’s Frostbite 3 engine is the engine that will power many of their next generation titles. Recently Johan Andersson, Technical Director of the Frostbite project at EA DICE, put out a tweet regarding the tests of the Frostbite 2 engine on the Wii U and how it came back with “not so promising” results.

Thanks to these tests on the Wii U with the Frostbite 2 engine, EA seems to have decided to not pursue development of their next-gen titles for the Wii U and skip them all together. The Frostbite 3 engine will be powering titles such as Battlefield 4 and the next installments of the Dragon Age and Mass Effect franchises. This looks like a bad situation for Nintendo if it misses out on these big titles so let’s hope that Nintendo finds a way to work through this.
